Farmers in Yatta Sub-County are experiencing renewed hope as long-standing post-harvest losses continue to decline significantly, driven by the efforts of the Yatta Multipurpose Farmers Co-operative Society (Y.M.P.F.C.S.).
The cooperative currently supports 914 smallholder farmers across 11 cluster regions, providing a structured system for aggregating, managing, and marketing mango produce more efficiently. This has enabled farmers to move away from exploitative middlemen and access fair, structured markets that offer better returns for their produce.
The initiative has strengthened value chain coordination and improved market access, contributing to increased farmer incomes and reduced waste after harvest.
This transformation aligns with the vision of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, whose development agenda prioritizes food security and economic empowerment under the rallying call, “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.”
